We had the honour of spending the day with the wonderful Emma and Tom, and their absolutely beautiful baby Layla-may.

For most of this year we’ve worked as wedding photographers, which we absolutely love, but it’s always nice to try something new, so we couldn’t wait for the day to arrive for us to provide family and portrait photography. And thankfully when the day did arrive the weather was fantastic!

We checked to find the best places for the baby photo shoot, and found that the large windows provided wonderful natural light. Finding the best light and the best angles for photographing babies can be a real challenge, and I always prefer to not use flash. If flash is needed then it’s always best to bounce the flash from the ceiling, that way the light is diffused and won’t cause discomfort for the baby. Thankfully flash wasn’t needed though, so we captured a very natural look.

After a quick coffee and a chit chat, it was time to get creative. For this photo shoot we used the following gear:

Sony A7Riii
Sony FE 55mm f1.8
Sony FE 35mm f1.4

The Sony FE 55mm F1.8 is easily the sharpest lens we’ve ever used, but it also creates a 3D pop effect. It really is a stunning lens! I highly recommend it for baby photo shoots and family portrait photography.

Hollie was really in her element for this photo shoot, using a lot of her creativity to find the best poses, the best light and incorporating the baby scans, which I thought was brilliant!

Thank you Emma and Tom for choosing us to photograph your beautiful little one, it was a real privilege and honour for us.
